Allyship as a Journey:
How to be the Ally Your Organization
and Workplace Needs
You can't be successful in the modern era (institutions or individuals) unless you understand institutional discrimination, privilege, and power. To transform our institutions, we must be committed to personal transformation.

This training was delivered live to Molloy University faculty, staff, and students on April 19, 2023. This presentation was customized for campus but is still universally applicable to most modern organizations and institutions. It is a high-level presentation for those new to the topic and rich with specific and immediately valuable examples of how to be good allies.

What you will learn:

What modern allyship is and isn’t

How to be confident, and humble, in your allyship

Many dimensions of allyship (landmines, successes, and gray areas)

Why allyship is an extension of our common values

That being an ally is a journey, not a destination

What micro-aggressions are and how you can address them

Examples of allyship

Things you can do now to be a good ally

I took Sean's webinar "Move Your Annual Report into the 21st Century" back in 2020, and really got a lot out of it. I was new to building an annual report, and this gave me so many fresh ideas about format and content-- along with good examples from real nonprofits' ARs. I have helped produce Save The Bay's AR the last couple years, used a lot of your tips, and got great feedback on the result. The handout was also good, I referred back to it the last couple years as a reminder. I actually want to take the course a second time to refresh. Thank you for all that terrific information and insight!

This mini-course is for:

Anyone committed to diversity

Equity

Inclusion working or volunteering on any team (government, corporate, education, nonprofit, small businesses, etc.)

We invited Sean Kosofsky to our university to introduce Allyship to our faculty, administrators, and staff as we integrate initiatives focused on the positive interactions of respectful workplaces. The presentation was excellent and incorporated relevant and universal societal examples that all constituencies found relatable. This virtual workshop jumpstarted important conversations and offered an asset-based and supportive model for stakeholders.

Sean took the time to customize his presentation to our community's needs regarding Allyship and thus the program was well received by our community and generated conversation. The campus conversation continued well after the presentation which is a great sign. We are very appreciative of the extra effort he put into making sure we achieved our goals for the workshop.
